Council Weed Control

Weedingtech is the innovator of Foamstream, the world’s leading herbicide-free weed control and outdoor management solution, trusted by local authorities all over the world

Foamstream has become an indispensable addition to the toolbelt for councils, used for public land weed removal, moss control, council grounds maintenance, roadside weed control, and outdoor cleaning tasks.

It’s not only an effective solution, but also a powerful PR tool, helping councils demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and community wellbeing.

Our organic, non-toxic weed control solution tackles unwanted vegetation, prevents regrowth and helps keep public spaces clean and tidy so communities can use and enjoy them safely

Why Weedingtech: How do we support local councils?

With Foamstream, we provide municipal weed control services that are:

  • Environmentally friendly – As councils are increasingly working to reduce their impact on the environment and meet sustainability goals, Foamstream provides a herbicide-free, non-toxic form of environmental weed management that won’t damage the environment or compromise delicate ecosystems.

  • Safe around people – With concerns growing around the risk to human health posed by glyphosate-based weed killers, councils are facing mounting pressure to make the switch. Foamstream uses hot water and an organic, biodegradable foam, so it’s completely safe for use around people, animals, and delicate ecosystems.

  • Highly effective – Glyphosate weed killers require soil absorption for the solution for the treatment to be effective, so its efficacy varies according to weather and seasonality. Foamstream is a highly effective rural and urban weed treatment in all seasons and all weathers, and requires the fewest treatment cycles of any alternative weeding method.

  • Cost-efficient – Foamstream’s efficacy, combined with its low number of treatment cycles, when compared to manual or mechanical weeding, and ability to sterilise seeds and spores to limit regrowth, make it a cost-effective method of council weed control. It’s significantly less labour intensive than manual weeding, further reducing cost of ownership.

  • Multi-functional – Foamstream is not only an effective form of local authority weed management, but it also helps councils to keep public spaces and facilities safe and accessible. Our eco-friendly weed control solution is also used to tackle slippy moss on public paths, for highway weed spraying and parks and verge maintenance, and as a safe, powerful cleaning agent for signage, play equipment and more.

Real Results: Foamstream – before vs after

Weeds before and after Foamstream

Foamstream case studies: Council weed control in action

Vale of Glamorgan Council

In a bid to reduce its chemical usage and align with the Green Flag awards criteria, Vale of Glamorgan Council wanted to move away from glyphosate-based weed killers and trialled a range of alternative methods.

Following the trial, the council adopted Foamstream as its chosen weed control solution based on its ease of use, high efficacy, environmental credentials, and suitability for use on a wide range of surfaces. The Vale has become one of the best performing authorities in Wales for the quality of their outdoor spaces and the switch helped them on their way to achieve 10 Green Flag awards.

Glastonbury Town Council

Concerned about the toxicity and health risks of herbicide-based weed killers to the community, Glastonbury Town Council trialled a range of alternative weed control methods to find a viable alternative.

Foamstream was the overriding winner of the methods tried and the council saw an immediate decline in unwanted vegetation and noticed slowed regrowth. The herbicide-free solution also proved to be nine times cheaper than manual weeding.

East Devon District Council

In line with their climate goals and following a glyphosate ban, East Devon District Council introduced Foamstream as a safer, non-herbicidal weed control solution.

The council saw rapid results and reduced regrowth across hard and soft landscapes. Foamstream has since become central to their sustainable maintenance strategy, offering environmental benefits and improved efficiency.

City of North Miami

After going herbicide-free in 2018, North Miami faced challenges using manual methods and vinegar, which were labour-intensive and ineffective.

The city adopted Foamstream for its all-weather reliability, instant results, and ability to treat a wide range of surfaces. It helped eliminate chemical use, cut down on labour costs, and was positively received by both operators and the public.

Council weed control costings

Foamstream offers the lowest cost of ownership of all commercial weed killing methods – and how you pay for it is up to you.

You can purchase our patented machinery outright or spread the cost over monthly payments, paying around £315 for the L12 or £385 for the M600H*.

*Indicative pricing based on lease financing deals offered by third parties.

Alternatively, a rental agreement might be a better fit for your local authority, particularly with the challenges posed by government funding constraints. Our rentals allow you to benefit from highly efficient, cost-effective, eco-friendly weed control at a fixed cost, so you don’t have to find an upfront sum and can budget with confidence around a pre-agreed payment schedule.

For a fixed weekly or monthly cost, you’ll benefit from:

  • The latest machinery and specifications
  • Personalised selection of all weeding and cleaning lances
  • 30 metre hose
  • Technical training and support

    FAQs

Is your weed control service compliant with local regulations and environmental guidelines?

A growing number of local authorities are cracking down on the use of glyphosate-based weed killers, citing concern over the risks they pose to human health and the environment. Regulations vary from location to location, but for the councils that have turned their backs on pesticide use for good, Foamstream provides a powerful, highly-effective alternative. It’s biodegradable, organic, non-damaging to the environment and safe for use around people and animals.

How often should council weed control be carried out?

This comes down to how effective your chosen method of local council vegetation control is, and the treatment cycles of the weeds you’re treating. However, Foamtream requires fewer treatment cycles than other alternative weeding methods, typically only requiring two to three treatments per season, and just one per year to eradicate moss and algae. Take a look at our helpful blog on the importance of treatment cycles for more information.

Can you provide one-off weed removal as well as ongoing maintenance contracts?

Yes – whether you need Foamstream for a one-off job or you’re looking to organise a trial period in the first instance we provide rental periods from as little as one month.

How do I request a quote for council weed control services?

Simply get in touch with us. A member of our friendly team would be happy to talk to you about purchase and rental options in more detail and provide some indicative costs and pricing models to consider.
